Downunder Unit

Chestnut Hill Conference Lodge is a "Hideaway in the Hills," just one hour's drive from Melbourne's CBD. A secluded and beautifully situated conference facility, it is of heritage significance and occupies an historic hillside on six acres in the scenic Dandenong Ranges, some 1400ft (426 Metres) above sea level. This means that the venue is comparatively cool in summer and invigoratingly crisp in winter, especially during occasional snow flurries.

A venue surrounded by impressive mountain ash forest, the contrast in the seasons offers its own special gifts; the vitality of summer, red and golden autumns, the flowers of spring and misty winter days.

The Lodge was built in 1977 as a Christian retreat centre and extended by a subsequent owner in 1999 to today's capacity of 30 beds.

The building incorporates

  • 11 ensuited bedrooms

  • Dining Room with pool table
  • Living Room with fireplace
  • Auditorium, seats 60
  • Meeting Room, seats 20

The House was a famous social retreat during the early 1900's. In 1908 the property was purchased by the Kennons whose tannery business was in Richmond. By 1923 Mrs Elizabeth Kennon had built a double story Californian bungalow as her "country residence". The interior is largely intact and retains a number of original features. The house has one suite available for guest use. This provides a double bedroom, ensuite, living room with fireplace, kitchenette and verandah.

Chestnut Cottage was built in 1920 to accommodate Senor Angelo Boroni, who came from Italy to work the property for the Kennons and was known for his award winning vegetables and fruits.
